Letter 330: Letter to a disciple daughter explaining to her not to read the books of authors who have not had spiritual realizations and read them in their original form and original language. Also, explain to her the meaning of her dreams of Sri Ramakrishna and advising her not to share such dreams with anyone.

बेटी रू……….,

८ मार्च की तुम्हारी चिठ्ठी यहाँ २८ मार्च को पहुँच गई है । तुमने जो कुछ लिखा है ठीक ही लिखा है – विद्यार्जन के साथ धनार्जन का कोई सम्बन्ध नहीं । तुम्हें घर से बाहर जाकर पैसे के लिए काम करने की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं है । लेकिन देखो बेटी, विचारों की शुद्धता केवल पुस्तकें पढ़ने से ही नहीं आती – कम से कम जैसा कि स्वामी विवेकानन्द महाराज ने लिखा है – ऐसी पुस्तकों को न पढ़ो, जिनके लेखकों को अपने जीवने में भागवत उपलब्धियाँ न मिल चुकी हों | और उन ग्रन्थों को उनके अपने मूल रूप में यानि अपनी मूल भाषा में पढ़ना है ।

जाग्रत, स्वप्न, तथा सुषुप्ति हमारे जीवनकाल की तीन अवस्थाएँ हैं । किसी एक अवस्था के अनुभव दूसरी अवस्थाओं के अनुभव से भिन्न हुआ करते हैं । इसका अर्थ यही हुआ कि जब हम स्वप्न की अवस्था में होते है तो उस अवस्था के अनुभव हमें मिथ्या नहीं मालूम पड़ते – जब हम जाग जाते हैं तो जाग्रत् अवस्था के अनुभवों के साथ मिला कर स्वप्नावस्था के अनुभवों को हम मिथ्या कहा करते हैं । श्रीश्रीठाकुर को अक्सर सोते समय दर्शन करती हो – इस बात को लोगों से – किसी से भी – न कहो । तुम्हारे स्वप्न का अर्थ श्रीश्रीठाकुर से तुम्हारी प्रीति ही है । मुझे चिठ्ठियाँ लिखती रहो । स्वप्नों के बारे में हमारे देश के विचार बहुत ही गम्भीर हैं । मैं तुम्हारे लिए श्रीश्रीठाकुर तथा श्रीश्रीमाँ से निरन्तर प्रार्थनाएँ करता रहता हूँ ।

Your letter of 8 March has reached here on 28 March. Whatever you have written is indeed rightly written  – there is not a relation of earning knowledge with earning money. There is no need for you to go out of your home to work for earning money. But see daughter, purity of thoughts does not come only by reading the books – at least, as Swami Vivekananda has written – don’t read such books, whose authors have not had spiritual realizations in their lives. And other books are to be read in their original form that is in their original language.

Waking, dreaming and deep sleep are the three states in our lifecycle. Experiences in any one of the state are different from the other states. This only means that when we are in dreaming state then experiences in that state are not perceived to be false (untrue) – when we wake up when compared with the experiences in the awakened state we say the experiences of dreaming state are false (untrue). Often you have the vision of Sri Ramakrishna in sleep – this thing doesn’t share with people – with no one. Your dream only means your love for Sri Ramakrishna. Keep writing letters to me. As regards dreams, the thinking of our country is very serious (profound). I constantly keep praying to Sri Ramakrishna and the Holy Mother for you.
