SRI RAMAKRISHNA

Professor Tarit Kumar Bandyopadhyay made a chart detailing Ramakrishna’s and Holy Mother’s travels between the Kamarpukur-Jayrambati area and the Dakshineswar-Calcutta area.*
[*Tarit Kumar Bandyopadhyay, Sri Srima O Dakat Baba, Dev Sahitya Kutir Pvt. Ltd, (Calcutta, 1994), 45-49.]
We are grateful to Professor Bandyopadhyay for furnishing this thoroughly researched information, and we provide it in this appendix to help the reader visualize how Ramakrishna and Holy Mother made the long journeys on foot, by bullock cart, by palanquin, by boat, by steamer, and by train.

*Telo-Bhelo route, 64 miles:* Holy Mother walked from Jayrambati to Baidyabati via Arambagh-Tarakeswar and then traveled by boat to Dakshineswar. This route passed through 61 villages (from Jayrambati) and crossed five rivers –  Amodar, Dwarakeshwar, Mundeshwari, Damodar, and the Ganges. Holy Mother once encountered a robber on this route.
Sri Sarada Devi,

Sri Sarada Devi,
*Burdwan route, 101 miles:* Sarada Devi walked from Jayrambati to Burdwan via Uchalan, a distance of 34 miles, or took a bullock cart, and then traveled to Calcutta by train for 67 miles. This route passed through 17 villages and crossed the Damodar River.

*Ghatal route, 68 miles:* In the 1870s there was a steamer service between Calcutta and Ghatal. In July 1877, Holy Mother traveled with Ramakrishna and Hriday along this route. They went by steamer from the Armenian Ghat at Calcutta and stopped at Bandar, and then took a boat to Bali-Dewanganj. In Dewanganj, they stayed at Banshidhar Modak’s house for three days, and finally either walked or went by palanquin the last eight miles to Kamarpukur.

*Vishnupur route, 153 miles:* Holy Mother took a train from Calcutta to Vishnupur, a distance of 125 miles, and then went to Jayrambati by bullock cart or planning for 28 miles.
