THE FROGS AND THE OX

An Ox boiled down to a reedy pool to drink. As he sprinkled vigorously into the water, he squashed a youthful Frog into the mud. The old Frog before long missed the little one and asked his siblings and sisters what had happened to him.
“A _great big_ beast,” said one of them, “stepped on close to nothing sibling with one of his immense feet!” “Huge, was he!” said the old Frog, puffing herself up. “Was he as large as this?” “Gracious, _much_ greater!” they cried. The Frog puffed up still more. “He couldn’t have been greater than this,” she said. However, the little Frogs all proclaimed that the beast was _much, much_ greater and the old Frog continued puffing herself out to an ever-increasing extent until, at the same time, she burst. _Do does not endeavor the impossible._
