Swami Advaitananda was most seasoned in age among the devotees of Sri Ramakrishna; in reality, he was more seasoned than Sri Ramakrishna himself by eight years. Thus the Master used to call him ‘Budo-Gopal’ (Elder Gopal); to all the others he was ‘Gopal-da’.

Gopal-da was a representative of Beni Madhav Pal of Sinthi who was a Brahmo and furthermore dedicated to Sri Ramakrishna. At 55 years old Gopal-da lost his significant other and moved toward becoming misery stricken. A companion took him to Sri Ramakrishna. After a few visits, he was such a great amount of attracted to the Master that he surrendered hearth and home and came to live with him. Gopal-da was the main male lover, other than Latu, to whom Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi talked legitimately. He would get things done and do looking for her. During Sri Ramakrishna’s last ailment Gopal-da served the Master with dedicated consideration.
After the Master’s passing, Gopal-da Maharaj, Latu Maharaj, and Tarak Maharaj kept on remaining at Cossipore garden-house for some additional time, and they were the first to join the Baranagar Math. He experienced a sannyasa appointment and moved toward becoming Swami Advaitananda. Following a year he went out on a journey to better places and furthermore did Tapasya for quite a long while in Varanasi.
At the point when Belur Math was built up, he settled himself forever there and did different kinds of work particularly developing vegetables. After a concise disease, he passed away, while remaining completely cognizant, on 28 December 1909.
