‘প্রভুর প্রতিজ্ঞা ছিল শুন বিবরণ।
হাটেতে ভাঙিব হাঁড়ি যাইব যখন।।
সেই হাঁড়ি-ভাঙা রঙ্গ  আজিকার দিনে।

কিভাবে ভাঙিলা হাঁড়ি শুন এক মনে।।

দক্ষিণেশ্বরে থাকাকালীন শেষের দিকে ঠাকুর একদিন বলেছিলেন:যাবার আগে প্রেমের হাঁড়ি ভেঙে দিয়ে যাব। যেমন কথা তেমন কাজ। সেই হাটে হাঁড়ি ভাঙার দিনটি এসেছিল ১৮৮৬ খ্রিস্টাব্দের ১ জানুয়ারী তারিখে।

   ভাবতে সত্যি আশ্চর্য লাগে না কি যে,অবতীর্ণ ভগবান নিজ প্রেমের হাঁড়ি ভেঙেছিলেন আমাদের এই সমস্যা-সমকীর্ণ কলকাতা শহরের উপকণ্ঠে।  হাঁড়ি ভেঙে নিজ লীলা পুষ্ট করেছিলেন অপ্রকট হবার ছয় মাস আগে।

  শ্রীরামচন্দ্র দত্ত প্রমুখ ভক্তগণ ঠাকুরের ঐ দিনের আত্মপ্রকাশকে ‘কল্পতরু রূপ প্রদর্শন’ বলে বিখ্যাত করেছেন;কিন্তু স্বামী সারদানন্দ লিখেছেন:”…উহাকে ঠাকুরের অভয়প্রকাশ অথবা আত্মপ্রকাশপুর্বক সকলকে অভয়-প্রদান বলিয়া অভিহিত করাই অধিকতর যুক্তিযুক্ত।”

  ঐ মহিমামণ্ডিত দিনটি কিন্তু গৃহী ভক্তদের কেন্দ্র করেই অভিব্যক্ত হয়েছিল।
  সেই জন্যই বোধ হয় গৃহী ভক্তদের দেওয়া ‘কল্পতরু’ নামটিই ‘লীলার ঈশ্বর’-এর ইচ্ছায় সর্বজনগ্রাহ্য এমন ভাবে হয়েছে যে,সন্যাসীরাও ঐ নামেই ঐ দিনের উৎসব করেন।

  তবে একটি কথা আছে।

             ভাববার কথা।

  আমরা এমন যেন মনে না করি যে,ঐ ‘কল্পতরু’ নামের আধারে ঐ দিনে অভিব্যক্ত রামকৃষ্ণ-কৃপার সমগ্র অধেয়টি ধরতে পেরেছি।
  ঐ দিনের ঐ চৈতন্য-ভাস্বর ঘটনাটি একটি মূল-বৃন্ত-হীন বিচ্ছিন্ন ঘটনা নয়।
  ঐ ঘটনাটি অবতীর্ণ ভগবানের একটি কৃপা-প্রেরিত মরমিয়া আত্ম-প্রকাশ।
  শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ-আবির্ভাবের অনেক কথাই তাই এসে পড়ে।

  একথা সম্পূর্ণরূপে মানি যে,আমাদের সহজ ঠাকুরকে কঠিন করে বুঝতে চাওয়ার কোনো প্রয়োজন নেই।
   কিন্তু এটি মনে রাখতে হবে যে,তিনি সহজ হয়েও অমেয়, কাছের মানুষটি হয়েও নিঃসীম।
  তাই কোন শব্দসমষ্টির বাঁধা ছাঁচে তাঁকে পুরোপুরি ধরে ফেলা যাবেনা।
  মুঠোর মধ্যে গোটা আকাশটাকে যেমন যায় না ধরা,যদিও যায় ছোঁয়া, তেমনি কোন শব্দর্থের মুঠোয় শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণের কোন প্রকাশের সমগ্র বেদন-ব্যঞ্জনাকে যায় না ধরা,যদিও যায় অভ্যাসে পাওয়া।

  পূর্নের এক কণাও পূর্ণ।

   তাই বলি ‘কল্পতরু রূপ প্রদর্শন’ কথাগুলিতে শুধু আভাসই আছে।
  আছে শুধু একটি ইঙ্গিত—একটি বিপুল আলোক-রাজ্যের অনু-রঞ্জন,তার বেশি নয়।

  কল্পতরুর কাছে দাঁড়িয়ে চাইতে হয়।
  যা চাওয়া হয় তাই পাওয়া যায়।
  ঐ দিনের ঘটনাটিই ধরা যাক।
  শরীর অত অশক্ত–আহা,বিছানায় উঠে বসতেও কতই না কষ্ট!
  তবু ভব-মূল শিথিল করে ভ্রাম্যমান হলেন কল্পতরু।
  ঐ উঁচু উঁচু কাঠের সিঁড়িগুলি বেয়ে নীচে নেবে এসে নিজেই ভাঙলেন অমৃত-গড়া প্রেমের হাঁড়ি ভক্তদের সত্তার নিগূঢ় অন্তরে—তবে না হলো চৈতন্যের অত ছড়াছড়ি,যেন মুড়ি-মুড়কি।

  হাড়গুড়ানো,গলা-কাটা সাধন করে যা হয় না জন্ম-জন্মান্তরে যুগ-যুগান্তে,সে চৈতন্য ঘটে ঘটে ফুটল খোলায় চড়ানো খই-এর মত।
   এমন অত্যাশ্চর্য ব্যাপার কেউ কি কখনো শুনেছে পূরণে,কল্পকথায়,ইতিহাসে?
  তবু হয়েছিল ঐরূপ ঐদিন আমাদের এই কলকাতায়। কে চেয়েছিল

চৈতন্য-স্ফুরণ সেদিন? কে পেয়েছিল চাইবার পরে?

  কেই বা ছিল অধিকারী?

  কিন্তু তবু একটি ঈশ-অভীপ্সার কারুণ্যবেগে সমগ্র কৃপাসাগর বিন্দুবদ্ধ করে যে মহাবানী উচ্চারণ করলেন একটি মৃদু নিঃশ্বাসের পেলবতায়,তার অপার অমোঘ শক্তিতে কি না ঘটল খণ্ড পলকে!
  ছিন্ন হলো কর্মপাশ,কলুষ হল কৃত্য,খণ্ডিত হল কলিডোর।
  চৈতন্য হলো পুষ্পিত জর্জরিত জড়ের অনাহত হৃদয় গুহায়।
  চোখে দেখল যা ধ্যানেও দেখা যেত না।

  সেদিন অধিকারি-নির্বিশেষে চৈতন্য জাগ্রত করলেন।
  তারপর উপরে এসে অসহ্য গাত্রদাহ।
  গঙ্গাজল সারা পায়ে গায়ে মেখে তবে কোন প্রকারে স্বস্তি।
  মায়ের কোথায়,শুধু রসগোল্লা খেতে ত আর আসেননি!
  তাই বিদ্যুৎ-পলকে সকলের পাপ টেনে নিয়েছিলেন ঐ ভগবতী-তনুতে।
  সে জ্বালাময় ইতিহাস কি আমরা মনে রাখি!
  উৎসবের আনন্দে মত্ত হয়ে ভগবানের বেদনাটুকু ভুলে যাই।
  ভাবি ভগবানকে পেয়েছি আমরা কেঁদে— সাধন করে।
   তিনি যে কত কেঁদে কেঁদে সেধে সেধে আমাদের অবরুদ্ধ চৈতন্যের দোর গোড়ায় ধন্না দিয়ে অনাহারে পড়েছিলেন, সে কথা আদপে জানিইনে।

।।শ্রীচৈতন্যদেবের নীলাচল লীলা।।

অদ্বৈতাচার্য ভক্তদের সঙ্গে নিয়ে শ্রীচৈতন্যদেব ও তাঁর চার সঙ্গীদের (নিত্যানন্দ,পন্ডিত জগদানন্দ,পন্ডিত দামোদর ও মুকুন্দ দত্ত) শান্তিপুরের সীমানা অবধি এগিয়ে দিলেন। বৃদ্ধ জ্ঞানী আচার্য বিদায় মুহূর্তে নিজের হৃদয়াবেগ ধরেড রাখতে পারলেন না। শ্রীচৈতন্যদেবের মুখকমল দর্শন করতে করতে মুর্ছিত হয়ে মাটিতে পড়ে গেলেন। তিনি শ্রীচৈতন্যদেবকে শুধু ভক্তিই করতেন না,আপন সন্তানের মতোও দেখতেন। এই মিশ্রভাব তাঁর বিরহকে সুতীব্র করে তুলেছিল।

সর্বত্যাগী সন্ন্যাসী মুখে ‘হরিনাম’ উচ্চারণ করতে করতে দক্ষিণদিকে অগ্রসর হতে লাগলেন। পথে দেবস্থান দর্শন, ভিক্ষান্নে উদরপূরণ ও বৃক্ষতলে শয়ন চলতে লাগল। পথশ্রমের কষ্ট হরিনামের আনন্দে কোথায় মিলিয়ে গেল। তাঁর গমন পথে  তাঁকে দর্শন করে ও তাঁর মুখে সুমধুর হরিনাম শ্রবণ করে বহু মানুষ ভক্তে রূপান্তরিত হতে লাগল। কৃষ্ণভক্তি ও ভাবের বন্যা বইয়ে কলুষনাশকারী শ্রীকৃষ্ণচৈতন্য সপার্ষদ এগিয়ে চললেন।

এইভাবে তাঁরা ছত্রভোগ নামক এক স্থানে এসে উপস্থিত হলেন। এইস্থান অধুনা দক্ষিণ চব্বিশ পরগণার জয়নগর মজিলপুরের পাঁচ-ছয় মাইল দক্ষিণে। এখানে তাম্বুলিঙ্গ মহাদেব আজও বর্তমান আছেন। তাঁকে দেখে শ্রীচৈতন্যদেব ভাবস্থ হয়ে পড়লেন।  ভাবের উপশম হলে তিনি মহাদেবের পূজা ও স্তব করতে লাগলেন। তাঁর সুললিত কন্ঠে উচ্চারিত ভাবময় শ্লোক শ্রবণ করে গ্রামবাসীরা আকৃষ্ট হয়ে তাঁর কাছে ছুটে আসতে লাগলেন। চারিদিকে খবর রটে গেল, এক অদ্ভুত সন্ন্যাসী এসেছেন-তাঁর যেমন রূপ তেমনি ভক্তি, একবার দেখলেই শরীর মন জুড়িয়ে যায়।

Mother Kali

Kala means time and Kali is the controller of time. Just like Dhana means wealth and Dhani means wealthy. I am born in this ‘time’ and the controller of time, Kali, has given birth to me. Kala and Kali are inseparable. That is why in Kali’s altar, both are present. Kali is the coming together of creation, sustenance, and destruction and Kala denotes their co-existence. The one, who gives birth, sustains too. That is why creation and sustenance are her responsibilities. And one who has birth has merging also. She emerges in the chest of Kala. I intentionally did not use the word ‘death’. In fact, nothing dies. That which is non-existent exists in history. Because Kala and Kali are inseparable, to love Kali, one has to know Kala. Kali puts out her tongue so that she would understand and experience Kala through taste, smell, sound, sight, and touch; that is why she keeps her nose, ears, eyes, and the entire body open. She also sees Kala through her heart and altar. That is why her third eye in the forehead is open—it is the symbol of the vision of heart and knowledge. Let us understand time. It is constantly flowing. A poet has said: ‘Time flows by the river current.’ Time constantly comes from the past, touches the present, and runs after the future. The sky, air, planets, and stars are all witnesses to this. The human being can only indicate time to some extent through units like the second, minute, hour, day, week, month, year, and so on. The vast can be measured. The human being has measured the highest peak, the Mount Everest, the seabed, and also the speed of light, which is 1,86,282 miles per second. Further, even for measuring great distances, the human being has combined the speed of light with time and created a unit called the light year. But there is no tape to measure the infinite. Not only that there is no end for Kali or Kala, but there is no beginning also. It would be an understatement to call them the primal god or the primal goddess. The human being bowed down before the vast and yet aspires to touch it. The mountains are high! Humans get enthralled by the Himalayas and bow down with respect, yet they scale its highest peak. The sea is faster and deeper. Humans cross seas and oceans and move on their beds. And the sky! The land and waters of the earth are not infinite but, the sky is infinite; without beginning and without end. Humans wander there too! Not only do they travel through the sky route, but they are also moving into space out of curiosity. To respect the vast and infinite, to know it, the curiosity to feel it—all these have led humans to find Kali. What is the color of the sky? 

Mother Kali

It is colorless. One knows this by seeing the night sky. During the day, a star named the sun illumines the earth. Trillions and trillions of innumerable stars, planets, and satellites are born in space in the course of time and float there. They reveal themselves by their brilliance and also illumine the colorful space. Space scientists and astronomers observe the sky only in the night. It is only then that one can understand the sky’s true nature. Time encompasses space, Kali also does the same. That is why Kali is worshipped on a new moon day, devoid of moonlight. Even moonlight is an outcast there. The human beings in-vented color amidst this vast colorlessness. They discovered vitality. They discovered vital and colorful Kali. She definitely has vital energy. Else, how do innumerable planets and stars take birth in her womb? This incomprehensible progenitress, this ruler of time’s flow, this infinitude is Kali. Kali is a great creatrix! There is no end to knowing her; there is no end to the desire for knowing her. This intense human desire for knowledge, this endless curiosity is also her worship. Human beings are creative. They discovered Kali, at least her form. They have also tried to symbolize her. Whomsoever we love, we consider them to be beautiful. Kali is beautiful. One who gives birth is the mother. One who has given birth to me is my mother. That is why Kali has the form of a mother. Children alone are the ornaments of a mother. That is why the planets and stars she gave birth to are all over her body as the crown, bracelet, and necklace. Human beings are also her children. Human beings are the greatest among living beings. The brain is the greatest asset of human beings. Those who have the greatest brains among human beings are great scientists; great sages are the greatest assets of human beings. We get the wealth of knowledge and education from these children of Mother Kali and this knowledge is carried down the ages by humanity. Humanity identifies the luminous bodies that float in the continuous flow of time in space with these great persons. The ruler of time, Kali, also considers these persons as gems and wears them on her necklace and gives them the place in her bosom with love. Directions are her raiment. That is why she is without clothes. She gives birth to this world and also to this universe. She is constantly giving birth to millions of stars; when can she clothe herself! Then this creation would come to a standstill. Then how is her civilization protected? By human hands. Human hands create a civilization and also protect it. These hands en-circle Mother Kali’s waist and the protection of civilization, the covering of clothing is created. Much happens with time. Yet, time itself is unattached and flows continuously. But, Kali moves and dances playfully on the chest of Kala. Kala silently accepts everything—good and bad. However, Kali accepts and also rejects. Though she has two hands to give boons and blessings to her children, she has another pair of hands for accepting and rejecting. Of those two hands, one holds a sword. With this sword, she removes that which is unnecessary and is a burden on Kala, much like weeding. And with the other hand, she accepts all the gems, the bright stars of knowledge and wisdom, and affectionately wears them as a necklace. Time moves on; the human civilization moves on. An era ends and another comes, but human beings have to keep moving on. Human beings have to keep pace with time. That is why human beings worship Kala and want to take care of him always and to do that they keep an hourly chime in their clocks. Every time the clock strikes an hour, it reminds human beings, ‘Time is passing, and a bit more has passed’. Nature also has an animal that does this work of striking by the hour—the jackal that keeps time by howling. It howls by the hour and announces the time to the world. It follows in the footsteps of Kali, the ruler of time, the symbol of infinitude, and the great motherhood of God. One who has no end—how can a discussion about her end? Yet, sometime the discussion might end. Then imagination extends into the infinite. ‘Sun gives light.’ This sentence of three words is connected with the reality of millions of years of the sun giving light. With the words ‘Kali’ and ‘Kala’ are also connected ‘beginningless’ and ‘endless’—that which is beyond form and form-less; the existence of all that is immeasurable in the present and the future. Let not the reader stop thinking here
