Thought for the Week

After the journey, Sarada Devi lived alone in Kamarpukur, the town where Ramakrishna was conceived. There, she persevered destitution, skirting on starvation for a year. In 1888, when the news achieved the lay and devout devotees of Ramakrishna that she required their care and consideration, they welcomed her to Calcutta and organized her remain. Swami Saradananda constructed a lasting house for Sarada Devi in Calcutta. The house was named the Udbodhan House, after the Bengali month to month magazine distributed by the Ramakrishna Math. The house, otherwise called Mayerbati (“Holy Mother’s House”), is the place she spent the longest time of her life outside Jayrambati.
